JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position in finance starting August 2024. Qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Finance (Ph.D. or DBA required by start of appointment). All areas of Finance interests will be considered. Both high-quality teaching and an active program of scholarship are expected of the successful candidate.
Standard teaching load typically consists of undergraduate and graduate courses in corporate finance or financial modeling/financial data analytics. Teaching may include both residential and online courses in the Universitys on-line undergraduate finance major offered through Penn States World campus or hybrid courses offered through graduate MBA program.
Includes guaranteed summer research support, computing support for individual faculty members, full access to major statistical packages and databases, as well as funded travel to professional meetings. A partial listing of available databases includes: WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Lexis-Nexis, I/B/E/S, PHLX data, NYSE TAQ, PACAP, Bureau von Dijk, Datastream and Worldscope.
Salary is negotiable and competitive with AACSB-accredited schools of business.
The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International, listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review and offers 11 undergraduate majors, a hybrid MBA delivered at two locations, and a Masters in Project Management (MPM). Numerous faculty from the School of Business developed the Universitys internationally ranked online MBA program as well as the undergraduate finance program through the World Campus. In addition, the school recently developed a Graduate Certificate in Financial Engineering. The School has a focus on interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Business & Engineering Studies degree, one of only a few such programs in the country, the MPM program, and an International Business degree which also requires all students to obtain a concurrent degree in a functional area such as marketing or finance.
The Black School of Business occupies a $30 million facility with the School of Engineering providing a basis for multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The Schools $36 million dollar endowment provides significant support for the Schools programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives. The Schools Intrieri Family Student-Managed Fund, which has grown to more than $1 million, also funds undergraduate student scholarships and provides students with valuable hands-on trading experience. Faculty members in Finance have published in top tier research journals including the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Banking and Finance, The Journal of Financial Research, Financial Review, the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, and the International Journal of Finance and Economics.
Students and faculty enjoy the beauty of the colleges 854-acre campus, located minutes away from the heart of Pennsylvanias fourth-largest city. Metropolitan Erie has a population of over 280,000 and provides a variety of recreational and cultural activities year-round. Erie is located at the intersection of major interstate highways nearly equidistant between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Local airport service is available in addition to easy access to the three international airports all within two hours.
