Job title: AVID Teacher

Job description: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
The AVID Elective Course helps prepare students for college readiness and success in a global society.
The AVID Teacher is responsible for: * The AVID Teacher is a strong student advocate who is committed to the philosophy of the AVID program including the support for equity and access
- Acts as programs liaison with AVID students, AVID tutors and teachers
- Collaborates with different sites and grade levels to articulate elective course
- Advocates and assists in providing staff development regarding AVID methodologies as requested
- Communicates on a regular basis with parents/teachers regarding students progress
- Assists AVID Coordinator in organizing all AVID campus activities such as field trips, parent meetings, acceptance ceremony, fundraisers, etc.
- Monitors tutors and tutor progress for campus
- Works collaboratively with campus/district personnel to organize tutor training
- Provides information about colleges to students and maintains contacts with college counselors, and officials (with AVID Counselor)
- Work toward school-wide goals that ensure that all students have equal access to rigorous academic programs and mainstream activities of the school.
- Promote the use of instructional methodologies that enhance student access to rigorous curriculum.
- Promote the institutionalization of AVID as a school-wide program.
- Promote a college-going culture at the school that supports high expectations and levels of achievement for all students.
- Teach AVID methodologies and strategies in the classroom.
- Assist in facilitating site team meetings and staff development training.
- Assist in facilitating curriculum planning for AVID elective classes.
- Assist in coordinate campus AVID parent involvement activities and workshops.
- Attend campus/district AVID meetings and trainings.
- Attend AVID Summer Institute with the campus site team.
- Provide leadership in development of the yearly site plan for the AVID program.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
