Job description: Job Description Summary The Configuration Management Engineering Manager (CMEM) will be responsible for ensuring that complex systems, products, or projects are well-organized, controlled, and maintained throughout their lifecycle. The role will focus on establishing and maintaining consistency in the design, development, production, and operation of systems, products, or projects. The CMEM will be responsible for overseeing and implementing these practices. development and maintenance of documentation and data control processes and procedures that support quality program requirements and project delivery requirements for commercial nuclear power plants. The role will oversee development of project conventions, guides, administer accounts, product structure support, control & management of design process data with engineering software tools. The CMEM will collaborate with engineering to develop and prioritize configuration management decision making related to features, product-market fit, and a broader digital product roadmap.
The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified remote candidates will be considered.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Planning and Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive configuration management strategy and plan for the organization or project.
- Define configuration management processes, policies, and guidelines based on industry best practices and organizational needs.
Documentation Management:
- Establish and manage a structured documentation system for configuration items (CIs), such as software, hardware, and documentation.
- Define naming conventions, versioning schemes, and document control procedures.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation is properly maintained, updated, and version controlled.
Change Control:
- Establish and enforce change control processes to manage modifications to CIs.
- Evaluate proposed changes, assess their impact, and ensure proper approval before implementation.
- Monitor and track changes to ensure they are executed as approved and without negative impacts.
Configuration Identification:
- Define and maintain a configuration identification scheme to uniquely identify each CI.
- Assign unique identifiers (IDs) to CIs and maintain a repository of CI information.
Configuration Baseline Management:
- Establish and manage configuration baselines to capture the state of a system or product at a specific point in time.
- Ensure that changes are made only to approved baselines and that any changes are properly documented.
Version Control:
- Implement version control mechanisms for software, documentation, and other relevant assets.
- Manage code repositories, libraries, and version history for easy retrieval and tracking.
Release Management:
- Coordinate and oversee the release of new versions or updates of products or systems.
- Ensure that all necessary components are included in releases and that they adhere to established baselines and quality standards.
Audit and Compliance:
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to verify compliance with configuration management processes and standards.
- Address any non-compliance issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, testing, operations, and project management, to ensure smooth configuration management processes.
- Communicate changes, updates, and configuration-related information to relevant stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the configuration management domain.
- Implement best practices and lessons learned to enhance the effectiveness of configuration management processes.
Tool and Technology Management:
- Evaluate, select, and manage tools and technologies that support configuration management activities, such as version control systems, issue tracking systems, and automated deployment tools.
Training and Mentorship:
- Provide training and mentorship to team members and other stakeholders on configuration management principles, processes, and tools.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or related STEM
- 10 years minimum experience in Configuration Management
- 5 years technical experience with commercial or military nuclear power
Eligibility Requirements:
- The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified remote candidates will be considered.
Desired Characteristics
- Previous experience in a leadership or management role.
- Strong understanding of configuration management principles, practices, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry standards and frameworks such as ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or CMII (Configuration Management Institute’s Configuration Management and Governance methodology).
- Knowledge of NQA-1 requirements, regulations, and best practices, with a proven track record of successfully implementing and managing NQA-1 quality assurance programs.
- Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git, Subversion), issue tracking systems, and other configuration management tools.
- Knowledge of software development processes, including build and release management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong documentation skills for creating and maintaining configuration management plans, processes, and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of configuration management professionals.
- Experience in coordinating and collaborating with various teams across different phases of a project.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex configuration management issues and challenges.
- Strong analytical skills to assess the impact of changes and ensure the stability of systems.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate tracking and management of configuration items and changes.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and projects simultaneously.
- Relevant certifications can enhance your qualifications. Some certifications to consider include:
- CMII Certification (offered by the Configuration Management Institute)
- ITIL Certification (for IT Service Management)
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or other project management certifications
- Familiarity with the specific industry or domain in which the organization operates can be advantageous, as different industries might have unique configuration management requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, collaborate with different stakeholders, and manage conflicts when they arise.
The salary range for this position is $108-145k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
