Position Outcomes:
To assist and support students in Guided Studies achieve course expectations in their classes.
General Responsibilities:
This work involves close interaction with students and staff, with the primary emphasis on the implementation of intervention strategies through MTSS — Guided Studies and Bridges, among other interventions. This employee works under the direction of the Northfield Student Services Coordinator and has responsibility for classroom management and protocol. They are expected to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality; react appropriately in crisis situations; and exhibit initiative, creativity and organizational skills.
Qualifications: * Possession of Illinois Professional Educator License with Stipulations Paraprofessional, Substitute Teaching License, or Professional Educator License.
- Knowledge of high school students needs and behavior issues.
Knowledge/Ability/Skills: * Experience with special needs/at-risk student population; ability to think creatively about programming for at-risk students.
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Support, or ability to learn Multi-Tiered System of Support protocols and practices.
- Strong subject knowledge in core academic area or areas.
- Strong behavior management skills.
- Ability to move about frequently in the classroom and in various other parts of the school.
- Ability to keyboard rapidly and accurately and use various types of software applications and assistive technology.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with staff and students.
Position Expectations:
- Assists students by:
- providing individualized or group instruction in classroom setting
- assisting students with note taking, computer use and other school-related tasks
- working with students as a tutor in a specific subject in a classroom setting;
- keeping abreast of class work, test schedules and assignment due dates
- documenting students educational and work performance as required
- Assists certified staff by:
- providing student data in a clear and timely manner
- maintaining clear communication with staff concerning students progress
- working as a team member with department staff
- Collaborates with the following staff/programs to provide targeted interventions for students:
- Northfield Student Services Team, specifically the Assistant Principal,
- Adviser Chairs
- Student Services Coordinator
- 504 Coordinator
- Reading Specialist
- Academic Assistance Coordinator
- Provides feedback to MTSS teams to determine the appropriateness of continued interventions.
- Continues job performance enhancement by participating in professional growth activities.
- Exhibits a positive attitude and projects a positive image to students, staff and parents.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
