Job title: Instructional Support Specialist

Job description: The Kodiak Island Borough School District is accepting applications for an Instructional Support Specialist at Larsen Bay School for the 2023-2024 school year. The specialist will work under the direction of the Director of Rural Schools and AKTeach, this position will require a variety of clerical, accounting, technical and instructional responsibilities.

Hours: 2 hours per day, 5 days per week, 9 months per year

Salary: Entry Range 13.5, Step 1: $19.86 per hour

Qualifications:

1. High school graduate or equivalent and experience or training in general office procedures.

2. Rapid, accurate typing – 40 wpm minimum.

3. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents.

4. Ability to carry out tasks assigned by the teacher/supervisor.

5. Operate current office technology as appropriate.

6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.

7. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities:

1. Admissions and Records – coordinate, prepare, plan and direct a variety of services involving admissions and records input, retrieval and maintenance and student registration.

2. Data collection and monitoring – Monitors student demographic and achievement data to ensure that performance measurements are accurately reported to the student, parent, head teacher and principal. This includes input and collection of data from data bases that are not on the district network.

3. Academic Support – Assists students with the technical and instructional aspects of completing a distance learning and/or Homeschool course. This may include tutorial assistance and assistance with all classes delivered through two-way audio/video sessions and elluminate sessions.

4. Must be able to work with all students of varying ages and backgrounds including diverse cultures, learning styles and learning abilities.

5. Performs a variety of accounting work in reviewing, entering and maintaining reports, budgets, and expenditure review of all individual student accounts and learning center accounts. Provides financial reports to lead teacher and principal.

6. Must have experience with skills assessment testing tools such as scholastic reading inventory, homeroom, skills tutor and dibels.

7. Works directly with clients (parents/students) and partners (Alaska On-Line, NDIS, etc.) to assist in the delivery of the program.

8. Works with local employers to access information for students who are receiving credit for individual employment plans.

9. Performs routine but somewhat varied clerical and general typing duties following standard procedures in support of the operations, preparation and maintenance of a variety of records and reports.

10. Valid and Current AK motor vehicle operator’s license with no insurance restrictions for transporting students and making home visits.

11. Must be willing to fly to rural locations and meet with staff/students/families that are enrolled in the correspondence program or distance education courses.

12. Performs duties related to the delivery of the distance and correspondence education program.

13. Ability to work well with students, staff and parents.

14. Must possess the potential and initiative to troubleshoot technical problems through on-the-job training or by other means.

15. Other duties as assigned
