Job Description:

The Manager of Academic Engagement and Achievement will assist the School of Veterinary Medicine constituents by providing individual learning strategies, consultations, workshops and conducting and coordinating events and programs related to teaching students and faculty best practices in learning strategies which support LSU SVM student achievement, retention and graduation.

Job Responsibilities:

55% – Academic Coaching: Provide academic and learning support to students in the form of individualized learning strategy consultations; Create content, resources, and materials relevant to increasing student learning within dual curriculums. Coach student relative to high stakes exam strategies including the NAVLE. Track the academic progress/health of assigned population(s); monitor student participation in academic interventions, communicate with assigned population(s) at regular intervals.

20% – Outreach, Presentations, and Programs: Serve as lead and mentor on programs or services promoting retention. Development and management of “boot camp” programming prior to the start of first year. Manage and guide tutoring programs including peer tutoring as well as supplemental instruction.

Provide information and render academic assistance to faculty and staff. Creation of assessment mechanisms for academic intervention programs and collection of data and feedback on those interventions.

10% – Administration: Conduct assessment and evaluation for programs; Participate in strategic planning and reporting programs. Serve on relevant committees as assigned. Provide training and supervision to student tutors.

5% – Provide lectures related to field of knowledge (study skills, learning strategies).

5% – Works collaboratively with the Olinde Career Center and adheres to the standards set therein.

5% – Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree and 7 years of experience in higher education with a background in education or higher education, counseling, social work or related field. Experience in student support in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a college learning center setting, working knowledge of learning theory.

Special and Physical Qualifications:

FERPA – As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.

Required to be capable of lifting 50+ pounds, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching above the shoulder, reaching below the shoulder, vision near sight, vision far sight, climbing, crawling, twisting, pushing/pulling, grasping, and squatting.
