The USU Tooele Campus seeks a qualified Math Tutor. The successful applicant will operate within Tooele Student Services, serving primarily as a tutor for student taking general MATH and Algebra courses MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, 1051, 1210, 2010 and 2020 with potential for trigonometry, calculus, and related courses. Tutors are expected to conduct their sessions 100% from the Tooele Campus (no remote from home). Exact hours will be assigned by the supervisor based on student needs and courses taught during the semester. Schedule will be primarily in the evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Math Tutor for students taking general Algebra and MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, 1051, 1210, 2010 and 2020
  • Conduct tutoring sessions in person and through Zoom online (On campus)
  • Provide help with understanding of course content, homework, review exams, and/or explain concepts recently discussed in classes
  • Work with Tooele’s Student Success Coordinator throughout semester to assess student needs and update practices.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be willing to attend training on online tutoring system
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Demonstrates personal integrity
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Proficient in College Algebra, including MATH 1050 or higher (or equivalent)
  • Preference will be given to those who have successfully completed the following or their respective equivalents:
  • MATH 1050 (College Algebra) MATH 1060 (Trigonometry)
  • MATH 1210 and/or 1220 (Calculus)

Expression of a level to communicate verbally with clients/customers and others to obtain and provide basic information. Able to communicate by telephone. Capable of explaining routine polices and of properly referring more complex cases.

ADA Comm Requirements – Comprehension:

Comprehension and expression of a level to record fairly uncomplicated information frequently such as filling in report forms, logging entries and taking telephone messages.
