Aviation connects the world and Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) connects Aviation. Sustainably. Seamlessly. Securely. The Data Management & Data Science (DM&DS) team is a newly formed organization within CAS Engineering with the end-to-end responsibility to ensure that CAS data assets are managed with integrity and quality prior to consumption by our critical customer facing applications – whether via APIs, analytics and/or data visualizations. As a CAS Enterprise Data Architect on the DM&DS team, you will be responsible for driving the technical architecture and tech stack selection of critical CAS Strategic Business Unit (SBU) Data initiatives in support of the Digital Transformation of CAS as well as for the cross-SBU Connected Ecosystem. In this endeavor, you will be working closely with architecture, engineering, and BU leaders across CAS, SBU and Digital Technology (DT) teams to ensure the technical solutions are efficient, scalable and meet long term Connected Ecosystem needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Aid in the identification, design, prototyping and selection of solutions and offerings needed to support the products we deliver to our customers.
- Lead our architecture journey for data delivery, working closely with peer architects, digital technology service owners, business leaders and product managers. Ensure we architect for today, to redefine the future, and to bridge from today to that future.
- Aid in the development of strategies and roadmaps for data-intensive platforms (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, machine learning and artificial intelligence)
- Develop and review execution plans with respective owners of enterprise systems, regarding the evolution from current to future-state architectures. Market and build consensus as necessary to execute identified solutions.
- Create and articulate future state vision via all the relevant architecture & design artifacts. Help validate these proposed future state architectures with proof-of-concepts and/or MVPs.
- Collaborate with all other Solution Architects and peers to refine and evolve solutions, processes, and practices while leveraging TOGAF, Zachman or other relevant frameworks.
- Work Closely with the Data Engineering teams on Data ingestion pipeline, Transformations, Orchestration, Monitoring, Performance tuning and aspects related to building a resilient and repeatable Data Pipelines.
- Continuous “outside-in” scanning, to facilitate continuous learning, hands-on understanding, & adoption of Solutions Architecture industry standard methodologies & techniques.
- Practice a customer-focused approach, driven to listen and fully understand the request. Demonstrate willingness to go beyond organizational boundaries to address challenges.
- May travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
Qualifications / Required Skills:
- Bachelors degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum years 8 experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Aerospace knowledge and experience – specifically Airlines/Business Aviation or Airports
- Working knowledge of Collins Management System
- Knowledge of internal Collins and RTX technologies, systems, architectures, processes
- Familiarity with CAS and/or broader Collins Aerospace products and services
- Experience applying Agile methodology.
- Experience in the operationalization of data science models
- Experience with Data Virtualization and Microservices
- Knowledge of IT audit, regulatory, and compliance in the Aerospace and Defense industry
- Cloud-related certifications
- Proven track record as a Solution Architect or Technical Lead, crafting new solutions, developing strategies, and delivering business outcomes.
- Hands-on experience building and operating data platforms, including Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, and Azure; ETL tools such as Alteryx.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing solutions that collect and organize data, including lakes and warehouses.
- Proficiency in tools used to manage data throughout its lifecycle, especially tools that are applicable to large, complex and distributed organizations.
- Experience in environments that use data to support artificial intelligence and/or machine learning is desired.
- Ability to learn and evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., knowledge graph, data mesh, data platform, smart factory, digital twin) and to apply these technologies to solve business problems.
- Experience in all aspects of Architecture Design (people, processes & technology)
- An understanding and consistent record for cloud-based (e.g., AWS, Azure) solution architecture. Includes automation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment.
- Awareness and appreciation for data governance, quality, and security principles
- Ability to partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., infrastructure, cyber, development) to ensure smooth deployments and sustainable performance of the platform.
- Highly collaborative team player with demonstrated ability to be flexible, diplomatic, persistent, and energetic. Comfortable with ambiguity, open to change, working in a fast-paced and fluid environment.
- Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.

The salary range for this role is 94,000 USD – 196,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidates work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
