Responsible for providing regulatory compliance assistance and support to Companion Life. Monitors and analyzes changes in laws and regulations and serves as a liaison with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina’s law department.

Logistics:
This is a full-time position working (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday on a flexible schedule. On-site candidates in Columbia, SC are preferred, but remote candidate will be strongly considered.
What Youll Do:
- Responsible for monitoring state and federal governments as well as insurance industry groups for emerging market and regulatory compliance issues. Analyzes legislative and regulatory developments for applicability to business operations and provides education and support to business divisions for implementation of new legal requirements. Supports market and regulatory compliance in all jurisdictions in which the Company does business.
- Partners with business divisions to identify and implement compliance programs. Develops and maintains policies and procedures consistent with federal and state requirements. Oversees compliance investigations or market conduct actions and recommends appropriate business response. Educates internal and external partners on compliance matters.
- Works closely with business divisions and external business partners to develop and manage Company responses on regulatory matters and serves as business liaison to legal counsel. Oversees business response to legal requests for information. Provides general research support and guidance to business operations.

To Qualify for This Position, Youll Need:
- Bachelors Degree
- Four years of experience in job related field
- Five years legal, regulatory, claims compliance administration or health insurance industry-related experience.
- Must understand aspects of insurance business.
- Strong client support orientation.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to all levels throughout the organization.
- Excellent analytical or critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to persuade, negotiate or influence.
- Exercises confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to coordinate projects.
- Excellent presentation skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Working experience with Microsoft Office.
What we Prefer you to have:
- Juris Doctor degree.
- 3 years-working experience as in-house lawyer working in insurance and/or regulatory/compliance law dealing with insurance products.
- Ability to apply expert compliance and regulatory interpretation to constantly changing business situations.
- Ability to apply judgment when applicable laws and regulations are ambiguous or unsettled.
- Understanding of evolving business processes.
- Ability to identify risks and take steps to eliminate or curtail those risks.
- Ability to consistently meet client deadlines while managing high workload of complex projects.
- Familiarity integrating technology solutions into compliance operations.
- Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Compliance or insurance designations.
