Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Kinesiology is one of six academic units in the College of Health and Human Performance offering seven-degree programs: BS in Exercise Physiology, BS in Health Fitness Specialist, BS in Physical Education, BS in Sports Studies, MAEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology and a Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science, with over 1300 majors and over 35 full-time faculty. Our internationally known faculty are collaborative, interdisciplinary, and successful in innovative teaching approaches and research that receives external funding. They enthusiastically engage our students in and out of the classroom through interactive lectures, research collaboration, community service projects, as well as other activities. Our distinct research labs support our academic programs as well as provide opportunities for faculty and student scholarship. Faculty and students research fields related to Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity Promotion, Biomechanics, and Motor Control, Adapted Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Psychology, Sport Management, and Pedagogy.
Job Duties
East Carolina University seeks to fill a nine-month, fixed-term appointment in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health and Human Performance. The start date for the successful candidate is January 2024 or August 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate college level, including online or hybrid formats within the Exercise Physiology Degree Program, in support of the Department’s educational mission. The potential courses commensurate with department needs and candidates’ expertise and experience related to exercise physiology, exercise prescription for apparently healthy and clinical populations, EKG Interpretation, exercise testing and interpretation, exercise adherence, stress testing, strength training, behavior change, cardiopulmonary physiology, and disease prevention. The position will have undergraduate advising duties and will also provide service on department and college committees when appropriate.

Minimum Education/Experience
A master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise and Sport Science, or related field (such as but not limited to Human Performance, Movement Studies, Physical Education, and Sport Studies).
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Candidates with a background in clinical exercise physiology will be preferred. Candidates with a clear potential for, or demonstrated experience in, teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
- Experience working within the Clinical Exercise Physiology Field, Stress Testing, Cardiac Rehabilitation, or other Clinical Settings preferred.
- Experience in Exercise Testing for Healthy, Older Adults, and Clinical populations preferred.
- ACSM certification, NSCA certification
